The aim of the Ipswich Jazz Collective is to encourage the playing and performance of jazz in Ipswich and Suffolk and to raise the awareness and profile of jazz in the community.
To achieve this the Collective aims to:
  • host monthly Jazz Jam sessions where seasoned musicians and aspiring musicians can meet, play and feel safe to experiment and explore jazz/blues fusion approaches as well as jazz standards
  • provide music workshops designed to encourage improvisation and interaction
  • provide performance space for groups and individuals to play new works
  • promote gigs for local bands interested in improvisational music
The Collective is open to anyone with an interest in playing whatever their level of ability and age and would especially welcome players from diverse cultural backgrounds to encourage as broad a mix of music as possible.
Non-readers are very welcome - jazz is an aural tradition.

The Collective would be interested to make contact with any individuals, groups or organisations such as poets, theatre, drama or dance groups that might feel that they would benefit from a collaboration with locally based musicians.

August 2013 saw the successful inaugural big band performance of the Suffolk Suite, composed by several IJC members, at St Peters by the Waterfront, Ipswich.
