Sheet Music/Real Books and Play Along CDs
The Real Book, Volume 1, 6th Edition, Hal Leonard (Please note: The American Edition seems more common/popular than the European Edition, which has a significantly different repertoire). It is available in C and Bb, Eb or Bass editions for transposing instruments; the Bass edition has the melodies transposed to the bass clef i.e. no written bass parts and the same chords as the C edition, therefore bassists may prefer the C edition which could be shared with concert pitch instrumentalists.
Sets of play along CDs are available for a large selection from this book (240
tunes in all 4 sets)
Jamey Aebersold Play Along books with CDs, a large selection, see this web site for details: www.jazzbooks.com with suggestions on order of purchase.
Volume 1: How To Play Jazz and Improvise
Volume 2: Nothin' But the Blues
Volume 3: The II V I Progression
Volume 5: Time to Make Music
etc.
Volume 54: Maiden Voyage seems popular
The iReal b application for computers/tablets is popular; a very large number of jazz standards can be imported and used for chord change charts, play along backing tracks in any key or tempo and much more.
